sometimes lead to double rainbows. :)
Mostly clear skies looking up and slightly northeast from the Treaty Oak park on the south bank of downtown Jacksonville, FL.
A series of sunrise photos this week for Sky Watch Friday, taken at dawn on December 6th on our vacation at Disney World.
All taken from the Egan's Creek Greenway, a public nature preserve on Amelia Island near Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Forecast: Clear, with a few small clouds and a nearly full moon.
This shot was taken from the same place as last week's SWF image, but that one was looking west over the marsh and this one is looking north, following the narrow road as it bends around the creek, with a palm tree hanging out over the waters. The clouds in the distance stopped right here - everything to their right was empty, clear blue sky, so the palm tree was conveniently located to provide some interest to that side of the photo. I like this image because it offers a little bit of everything: sky, clouds, trees, water, marsh grass, reflection of the sky in the water...
Clouds reflected in a pond at EPCOT center, with a duck butt in the top right corner (cover the kiddie's eyes parents).
A lovely orange sunset on low level clouds being swept in on winds from Tropical Storm Hanna, which is thankfully too far away to give us much else besides a nice breeze and some clouds for a nice sunset.
Getting in late this Friday due to being busy and forgetting to save a post ahead of time on Thurdsay... but it did allow me to post a "fresh" photo from earlier this evening of a Florida thunderstorm building around 40 miles to the west - note the anvil head just above where the sun is located. We just saw on the news that this particular line of storms had produced over 1,500 lightning strikes in just the past couple of hours.
Some sunset photos from earlier this week taken on our little Nikon Coolpix while enjoying a walk around a big park nearby:
God provided quite the show yesterday afternoon with gnarly grey skies, heavy clouds, lots of thunder and lightning: Culminating in my first catch of lightning on "film" - I only had to stand there (under cover) and snap off photos for about 20 minutes before I finally got a good one (using the Nikon point & shoot that doesn't react as quickly as the DSLr):
Visit Tom for more Sky Watch Friday shots - hopefully with less voltage.
Pretty blue sky and cotton ball clouds for this weeks Sky Watch, hanging over a lake (really a giant retention pond to collect rain and runoff water from the nearby appartments and shops). These appartment/condo communities have overrun our city in the last 10 years - they're everywhere. At least these are colorful, providing somewhat of a contrast to they typical monotone, cookie-cutter buildings everywhere else. And the fountains in the lake are nice to look at while eating in one of the small restaurants that reside just behind where I stood to take the photos. But enough about the ground - this is Skywatch! So enjoy the lovely sky - mid-80s with a slight breeze; perfect Florida early summer. :)A closer shot for a better view of the fountains.
