ABC Wednesday: "O" is for Oak Tree

ABC Wednesday is an easy choice for anyone that lives in the Southern United States - oak trees are everywhere.  Their long, gnarly, twisted branches, often draped in moss or ferns, make for great photo subjects and provide plenty of great shade to escape the hot southern sun.

This particular oak is found in Bulow Plantation State Park near Flagler Beach, Florida.

Washington Oaks Gardens State Park

We took the day Saturday to travel south down the coast of Florida to some places we haven't visited recently - or ever - to take pictures and to just get away for a day.  First stop was at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park.

This park is a great place to get away and relax a bit, enjoy nature trails, a rose garden, a pond with fish, and a stretch of land along the Intracoastal Waterway.  (There is another section of the park that extends over to the coast on the Atlantic ocean but we did not have time to visit that side this trip.)

For a park with the name "Oaks" in it there must certainly be stately oak trees to cast their majestic shade across the gardens:

Sky Watch Friday

For Skywatch Friday this week, no storks! :) Instead, a shilhouetted oak tree in the rising Florida sun, taken on the golf course of the http://www.tpc.com/sawgrass/, home of the PGA Tour's "The Players Championship" held this week in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
