Tilegate 2007: Day 2

Well, all the tile is down and the guys just need to do the grout and they'll be done. A little baseboard trim later and we can move back in!

Paint Day! #2

So this is pretty much what the final room color looks like:

The beige door will be going the way of the dodo soon. :)

Paint Day!

With the contractor done it is time to paint everything before the tile guys come this week.

First, the ceiling:

Then the walls with primer:

Erin styling with the goggles, breathing mask (due to all the drywall dust), and extended paint roller. It will be all the rage in Milan:

Then I took down the ceiling fan from the dining room and hung our new chandelier in its place:

And then moved the ceiling fan into the family room so we can have light and moving air:

So tomorrow we put on the coat of actual paint, clear out all the stuff and wait for the tile guys to do their thing on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Warning: some paint and paint supplies were harmed in the filming of this blog:

Construction Update # 8

Today the final work on the walls and ceiling were completed so phase one is complete and the contractor is gone:

That of course meant that a trip to Homie Depot was in order:
to buy paint...

and paint accessories...

So the weekend will be filled with primer... and ceiling paint... and wall paint... and moving a ceiling fan... and hanging a chandelier... ... and finding somewhere in all of that to watch football, of course. A man must have priorities, after all.

At least the Seminoles have a bye week this week, so I only absolutely have to see the Jaguars game on Sunday - or at least the part of it before I have to get back to church for evening services... maybe we can put it on the projector and turn the sound down so we can still hear the sermon? ;-)

Construction Update # 7

Ready for drywall and such. Only a few days left. Even now we can tell the room is much cooler and much quieter than previously. (Not to mention much safer with the new electrical wiring that isn't on the verge of catching fire...)

Construction Update # 5

Old side door now gone, to be replaced by studs and insulation. It will line up better with the other studs now for the drywall and tile:

The beginnings of a ceiling and walls! Woo hoo!

Sit. On. Hiney.

In addition to the flooding and other damaged furniture, our aged couch, which was on its last legs, decided to lose those last legs - literally. So since most of the other furniture in the remodelled family room would be new, we decided to continue the theme and get a new couch, too. Thanks to Maron's furniture we will have our new couch - a "Harley" series by Palliser - in 6 to 8 weeks.

The lighting wasn't good at all, so the colors are a little off, even after some photoshopping. The fabric swatch isn't as pink as it looks in the photos, it's more beige and close to the tile color. The walls will be painted the third color down from the top on the paint chip - Woodland Mystery. Erin also wants burgundy accent pillows. It should all be very nice. In 6 to 8 weeks. :)

A wider view:

This is a full length view:

Here's the new proud mama (take a breath Debbie - not that kind of mama yet):

It's a very comfy couch - not too soft, not too firm... just right!

You scream, I scream...

We all scream for... Brusters!

Construction Update # 4

We have insulation... lots of insulation. Woo hoo! Should keep the room much more comfortable than it was previously.

Construction Update # 3

Day 4 of the remodelling brought us:

New electrical wiring in the entire room and two new outlets. The electricians were surprised the house hadn't burned down yet after they saw the old wires:

New studs to replace a couple that had heavy termite damage from some point in the past:

Ceiling ready for sheet rock:

Wiring and support for a ceiling fan/light:
